When Lancashire Renewables had to upgrade its server operating system, they discovered that the consequent upgrade of its existing health & safety software would involve the purchase of completely new licences and an implementation project more complex and expensive than was considered viable.
Lancashire Renewables decided to replace its legacy system with the EPRAIS Adverse Event Reporting software module. The company had already been using Spidex’s Mainsaver maintenance management software for some years and EPRAIS is specifically designed for the two systems to operate side-by-side.
The Adverse Event Reporting module was an immediate success with plant safety officers and employees. The ability to log all kinds of incidents – even anonymously - arising from accidents and near misses, through to unsafe working practices and undesired circumstances, demonstrated its flexibility.
The incident data logged in EPRAIS was analysed using the module’s “5-Why” root-cause function. This identified the top recurring safety issues so that the team could remediate them. Using this ‘continuous improvement’ method, Lancashire Renewables saw its accident incident rate significantly reduced.
Following the successful implementation of Adverse Event Reporting an evaluation of the EPRAIS Permit-to-Work module is planned.
